What Was The Hunt?

The Hunt was an annual treasure hunt conducted at Rice University in Houston Texas, beginning in 1990. Each year, the event lasted an entire day and combined original puzzles, live interactive entertainment, specially engineered interactive mechanical devices, stage performances, meals, and an awards ceremony into a themed adventure throughout the city of Houston for about 150 participants.

After a slow start in 1990, The Hunt went on in the following two years to become a great success. By the time of the 1991 event, The Hunt had attracted considerable attention. In addition to the two newspaper articles written about the event in the Rice Thresher (the school newspaper), a story was written about The Hunt by Houston's major newspaper, the Houston Chronicle. The school magazine, Sallyport also featured The Hunt in 1992. After the 1992 event, The Hunt went out of production when all the coordinators graduated.
