A Letter From the CoordinatorsWell, today’s the day! You’re probably trying to rush as fast as you can with the hopes that you can get ahead of the other teams. STOP! DO NOT RUSH! There is a lot of cryptic information contained within this booklet. If you rush, you will only get more confused. So take a deep breath before you begin. OK, now a bit about the format of The Hunt. Your job is to sort out the jumble of clues we have given you. As you sort out the confusion, you will find that there are five distinct puzzles contained in today’s Hunt (not including the final puzzle). Each of the five puzzles will yield a two-digit number when solved. The puzzles are independent and do not need to be solved in any particular order. Each puzzle can be solved without any knowledge of the other puzzles. For most of the puzzles, you need to travel somewhere in order to reach a solution. You should have enough time to take the day at a somewhat relaxing pace, but only if you use your time efficiently. It’s up to you to try to use your time wisely - you may want to try to solve as much as you can out of the booklet before traveling anywhere so that you can plan out your day. On the other hand, you may want to go to each spot as soon as you figure out where to go, working through the booklet on the way. Neither strategy will necessarily work better for The Hunt. The way the puzzles are designed, you should KNOW when you’re right. In other words, if you get an answer and it seems somewhat contrived and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, then you’re probably wrong. When you get the answer, you should be fairly certain that it’s the correct answer. You may be wondering what all this leads up to or what you’ll be able to do with these five two-digit numbers. This will all be revealed to you in the form of a final clue. The final clue will be announced on KTRU Radio (91.7 FM) at 6:45PM. Once the final clue has been read over the radio, it will be a matter of speed to determine who wins The Hunt. It is up to you, through the course of the day, to decide where your team should be positioned when the final clue is read. When three teams have completed the Hunt, their names will be read over the radio. If this should not happen, further hints will be given over KTRU beginning at 7:15 every 5 minutes until three teams have solved the Hunt. Your team may find some of the puzzles easy and some of the puzzles difficult. Don’t get too frustrated if you get stuck on a puzzle. Not every puzzle is crucial to the completion of The Hunt. However, the final puzzle will be considerably more difficult if you have not solved every puzzle. A couple words of advice: First, you may find it useful to carry around with you whatever you use in the course of the day. Second, remember that the honor system sill applies. If you tried really hard, you could probably find a way to sabotage the puzzles in some way to ruin things for participants who arrive somewhere after you. We’re trusting that everyone will be given a fair opportunity to solve all the puzzles. After the Hunt is over, go out to dinner or kill some time until about 10 PM and then come back to Brown for a party on 7th. There will be solution packets, music and beverages - and prizes, for some! Have fun sorting out the distractions from reality, and good luck! The Hunt Staff: ![]() All contents ©1990-2003 The Hunt.
